“For matters of security and protection on the road. So many things that can happen, my friend, like a snake or the evil spirits you find on your path. For those and many more situations, of course, we carried a small stamp of the Virgin of Carmen. We stashed it very carefully in one of the carriel’s pouches. With that, we made sure we were fully protected at every moment. Next to the Virgin, it wasn’t a bad idea to have a stamp of Saint Judas Tadeo. He’s the kind and helpful protector on the road. He is an excellent addition in troubled times, like, for example, during the winters’ rainy days, when the going gets tough and sticky on the mud packed roads.”

“You don’t have the slightest idea about what it’s like to make your way, trudging through those muddy roads, while slippery steep inclines wait patiently to take you on a ride, sliding down those abrupt slopes together with your pack of mules to certain death below. Holy Mary! At times, it’s best to invite a few more saints to join you, just in case you need them… Which Saints to ask along, well to each his own I say, that’s a matter of personal preference. It’s like playing cards; as the game goes on, you choose what cards you want to bet on. In the end, it’s always better to be safe than sorry. Like I said, just in case, don’t you think?”
