A recruit with a plane
Chapter 13. About how cigars and how they explode
One day, my grandfather rose early in the morning. After breakfast and without breathing a word to anyone, not even to my grandmother Manuela, he walked over to the Sandinista’s Revolutionary Armed Forces Office in León, and without further ado, he enlisted. He was well-known and liked, also he was highly appreciated among the troops and the officers.
The recruiting officer signed him up immediately on his arrival. He was formally enlisted as an aviator, commissioned as an officer, with a Captain’s rank. He was now officially part of the newly formed Sandinista Air Force. Of course, his trusty airplane was also included in the deal.
After a few drinks while celebrating his appointment with his fellow officers, during that afternoon, he slowly walked back home. He felt good and was enjoying a sense of inner peace derived from having eventually taken a stand.
