The Corn Islands
Chapter 12. The Atlantic Coast and its Caribbean pirates
After a good night’s sleep in the hammocks, it was time to stretch and move on. Before the sun was up, we climbed on the boat and sadly, I must admit, left the camp behind. Epifenia saw us off at the plane. After regretfully saying farewell, we took to the skies. Grandfather headed eastbound, straight out to open ocean waters. We had one more morning and we spent it with pleasure in the Corn Islands, off the Atlantic Coast.
There are two islands called the Big and Little Corn respectively. The Big Corn had an airstrip and believe or not, more of Grandfather´s acquaintances. We had breakfast and lunch in two different restaurants that Grandfather knew about and of course, they also knew about him.
Between meals we took it easy on some hammocks in the shade by the beach. While having lunch, the proprietor proudly provided us with an elaborate and detailed account of his family’s history. His name was Johann Bonn and he claimed to be a descendant of the infamous pirate woman Anne Bonne.
