Lobsters bathed in coconut sauce
Chapter 12. The Atlantic Coast and its Caribbean pirates
As the morning wore on the camp had filled with visitors. The news of arrival had spread, and visitors from the town and its surrounding communities, showed up to say hello. All the fishermen had returned, so the camp was jammed. Everyone was busy drinking beers and cooking a feast. The people from the camp all spoke Spanish, but Creole-English became the common language as the place filled up with Creoles, Mesquite, and Garífuna or Afro-Caribbean. I listened wide-eyed as some groups started to talk in dialects, especially once I had noticed, how Grandfather was mingling and switching from one language to another, with apparently no effort at all.
At last it was time for the meal. It was well worth the wait, since it was exquisite! Most of the meal consisted of different types of fish, each prepared so many delicious ways; some had been smoked, others steamed or fried. The highlight of it all positively consisted in the lobsters bathed in coconut sauce! Nothing compares to a good simple meal with fresh ingredients and amazing company!
