Jean Marie was lost in thought, enjoying the pleasant view from the balcony when he heard Doña Juli say:

“My Dear Sir, would you be so kind as to come in. Your food is served, and it awaits your arrival at the table.”

Jean Marie recognized the owner’s voice, which was immediately followed by a second, feminine voice saying: “Yes, please. Follow me. Now, to drink, we have mazamorra, if that’s alright with you.”

He slowly turned around, a bit puzzled and without recognizing the voice. He found himself staring at three women; they were facing him expectantly. Suddenly, he felt a definite hesitation in the air.

“Mazamorra,” he inquired, “Is that something to drink?” As he was asking, he caught a glimpse of his plate. It was undoubtedly placed on his table, impossibly humongous and dangerously boundless. Perhaps, some would consider any comments on the immeasurable growth of his eyes as irrelevant. Let’s just add that as his mind finally registered the enormity of the meal they had served him, his belly began to rumble.

He was being observed by three unhurried and detached waiting women. Doña Juli, the owner. The good-looking, sweet young waitress that served him his breakfast earlier that day. Lastly, the woman from the kitchen, no more and no less than the cook who had prepared this impossibly gigantic lunch. Motionless, they waited with a tireless, inexhaustible interest.”
