In the meantime, Doña Juli thoughtfully began to prepare the meal, considering if she should serve him half of their lunch instead. Weel, the fact of the matter is that I just can’t believe that he’s capable of finishing it all. The few foreigners that have arrived at these God-forsaken-lands have always left more than half of the plate completely untouched, she thought to herself with a sardonic smile. If somehow, he should be able to eat two Bandejas, I believe that I’ll be more than happy to treat him to each of them!

From the balcony, Jean Marie observed the town below once again. Down in the plaza, there were a few scattered groups of men, merrily seated among the tables dispersed in the Fonda-bars that surrounded the square. It’s definitely a beautiful day for sketching a few more drawings, but for the moment, the only thing on my mind is to get my hands on the Paisa Bandejas. I’m so hungry that I could eat the horses I was on the way over, he pondered to himself. Meanwhile, in the kitchen, Doña Juli had decided how to handle the situation.

“We will serve him the full meal. It’s possible that somehow, somewhere, he might get to see a well-served version of the Bandeja Paisa. Then he might remember this day and could say that the one we served him here, in Marsella, was but a tiny snack!”, so she remarked to the cook, who was undoubtedly enjoying this unique occasion of preparing lunch for this hungry foreigner,
capable of devouring not one, but two Bandejas in a single go. Jean Marie’s announcement of eating two platters had sparked the interest of those working in the kitchen. When, finally, everything was done and ready, the cook herself, carried the food to the table, closely followed by the young waitress and, of course, Doña Juli.
