“But, don Jaime, what’s so special about the San Juan cows, other cows don’t share? Perhaps, they give chocolate milk or something?” I asked a little perplexed, for I realized he was joking, while Grandfather just smiled.

“Well now, they’re herbivorous, just like the rest of the cows, and that’s for sure. Don’t know of anybody drinking their milk though. Hmm, to catch them and then milk them…” After which they both laughed like little boys after a prank. I waited for the explanation.

“But they do like to munch the marine grass, and you can see them, as they swim gracefully by. It’s incredible how even though they’re quite fat, they swim so skillfully. These cows swim really fast, when they feel like it!”

“Come on don Jaime, swimming cows?” I interrupted, skeptically. Meanwhile, both continued laughing their hearts out. Finally, still laughing, Grandfather added:

“The manatees are also called marine or sea cows, honey bunch! In these parts of the world, you’ll be able to spot them easily. Like their terrestrial counterparts, they’re lazy and love to loaf around just chewing grass. All day long, the manatees graze in the water. When they’re not grazing, you’ll, normally, find them sleeping in the sun.”

A while later it was time to eat. We ate one of the best seafood meals, in my entire life. Yes, it was delightful! Don Jaime drove us back to the plane, and Grandfather delivered the box that contained the spare parts for his boat.

With full bellies and happy hearts, we took off. Now we were heading north and again, we followed the coastline, but this time, it was a marine coastline. After maybe an hour of flight, or more, we arrived to a huge bay. I could distinguish a big city below; at least, compared to San Juan del Norte it extended impressively.
