The vision and imagination of an artist

Taking out his supplies, he proceeded to add a few strokes there and correct the shading in different parts of his sketch. Soon, that paper began to overflow with its own life, all because of a few well-placed lines and traces that the illustrator carefully drew on his composition.

When acting under inspiration, Jean Marie could draw at an impressive speed. So, in a short while, he was back in the hotel languidly sitting on one of the high stools, his gaze fixed on a new drawing he was working on at the moment. The third sketch was progressing very quickly and had advanced substantially at that moment. He was trying out a new perspective that highlighted the cherry, colorful paintings on the walls.

Victor Hugo walked in from the street and quietly observed the artist at his work. Silently closing in y stood still, staring at the coffee machine in the drawing which, at that moment, was almost finished. The representation of the coffee corner, etched in the paper, was, at that point, ready to come to life and awake into the world. On the left-hand side was the previous drawing of this lovely little spot. Victor Hugo compared them both, smiling with genuine admiration for what he saw.

Now, that is an artist’s vision, the sensitivity to capture the same scene from different angles and points of view, each of these entirely individual and with its own personality, thought Victor Hugo, frankly taken in by the quiet elegance of his cafeteria as seen from the creative imagination of the artist.

“How can this be? This is beautiful, you are undeniably a great master, Jean Marie, congratulations! Both studies are extraordinarily impressive. You see, I spend time here every day, at this precise moment you have allowed me to discover details I had never considered, he commented, rediscovering that little nook and a voice filled with emotion.”
