Still, he did manage to produce a few outlines on the way over on that bus ride. It was a complicated issue, with the continuous movement of the vehicle, which at times was quite abrupt, especially when going through those closed curves on the Central Range. How I would have loved to get off at that spot before the river. I could have spent all afternoon, just sitting there and drawing… what was the name of the place? Of course, they called it La Pintada or The Painted One, makes sense when you think about the name! He smiled affectionately and with a deep satisfaction remembering the drafts he had done, even though the bus was moving like crazy.

In fact, the artist had been able to draw some alluring sketches on that journey. In his own peculiar way, unlike most of the tourists, he didn’t carry a camera of any kind. No, in the simplicity of his art, he found the greatness of his delicate spirit… What he placed on his pad where the landscapes of his fertile imagination, capturing that clear perception of the outside world in his note pad made out of blank, white pages. These he filled with the broad strokes of freehand illustrations of his visual poetry, his own very personal interpretation of the world in which he ascertained himself as a passerby.

Crossing the plaza diagonally, he directed his steps towards the Hotel Carmen. The lodging was a little less than a half-block from the park and down a steeply-inclined street. I believe that after a while, it will be time for another tintico… if only because I am presently in The land of the tinticos, he thought cheerily. Victor Hugo, the hotel’s owner, is definitely a kind and friendly kind of guy! Besides, I really like the hotel. This old-fashioned, Victorian mansion makes me feel more at home than in a lodging.
