In his vivid imagination, Jean Marie contemplated those two rivers and accompanied them in their winding wanderings. Undoubtedly, they seemed fatigued in that part of their travels. They had covered great distances, and now, their strength had ostentatiously waned, for they soon found themselves so far from the lands where that had seen them born into tenuous streams gathering strength as they rushed onwards. Still, they gushed on with a zest, and that characterizes the careless youth of their lives.

Further on, he would watch them from the silence of his daydream, as they arrived at their inescapable encounter with the sea. Together, they would partake of their ultimate purpose in one, only shared bed stream: serene, spacious,  and full of so many life experiences. By then, Jean Marie will think they might find themselves a bit senile. Linked and undivided, they will plunge into the immensity of the vast ocean, until losing themselves in the enormity of its seas.

It was a sound that woke the dozing from his dreams; it was abrupt and clear and drove him back to reality in a moment’s notice. The noise was a heavy pounding against the pavement, repetitive and fast with a forceful inherent lilt and cadence that gave it a particular rhythm and returning him from the faraway lands of the Magdalena River to the bench on the park in Marsella.

“I love it!; it’s magnificent!” The words just sprung from him involuntarily without his realizing it, as he gazed at two horses that were passing by, prancing happily in the street before him.

“You like horses?” John Jairo asked, turning to face him as he heard him cry out.

“Oh, yes! They are so nice, maybe a bit small, but I like them very much. In my grandparent’s time, it was common to see horses in the towns and villages. It’s a pity that those times have gone by, and the world has moved on in other directions,” Jean Marie answered.
