Later, continuing on the journey on the bus, the highway followed that same riverbed, accompanying it in its course towards Pereira City. On occasions, it crossed it in its path, riding on large bridges made out of sturdy metalwork.

During all this stretch on the road, Jean Marie never tired of admiring the beauty of the landscapes running by his window. From the vantage point of his seat, the river stood out in the forefront of his window-framed view. Now, so cozily sitting on the bench with Jon Jairo at his side, the sun, its warmth, the discreet singing of the birds in the background connived together to set the lazy, hazy atmosphere of serenity for a pleasant little doze on the bench.

Together they transported him, as he fell in a daydream and completely taken in, he went back, in a manner of speech, to those unforgettable moments of his journey, so pleasantly impressed in his memory. Completely immersed in his fantasy, he found himself once more back to the peaceful riverbed of the Cauca River. Slowly, in the flight of his imagination, he followed it unto its sources.

On the wings of his reverie, he arrived at the faraway, distant lands to be found upstream of the river. There, he envisaged the birth of its torrent, still nascent, but already denoting the vigor of its youth and the indomitable strength of its yet un-matured fullness of life, so clearly manifested in its energetic currents, as fast as turbulent. His fancy had conveyed him to bear witness to the birth of this imposing river amid convoluted and tortuous mountains placed in the deep south of Colombia, in that intricate region simply called The Colombian Massif.
