“Look, my child, what do you make out to your right, towards the west?”

“That’s a big peninsula with a couple of lakes. Oops, Grandfather, I mean, that’s a big volcano with a double crater,” I answered, aware of the difference between both statements. Also, the view from above helped distinguish everything so clearly.

“That’s right, honey bunch, it’s a volcanic complex and the crater lakes are the Xiloa Lake and the Chiltepe Lake.”

“Chiltepe… like the hot pepper, Grandpa?”

“Right on the dot, Cisca,” he answered, “a small pepper, but incredibly spicy!”

“I love those peppers; they’re so hot and tasty!”

“Did you know that if you plant the seeds, the peppers won’t sprout into plants?”

“No, I didn’t, Grandfather. But if they don’t grow from seeds, where do those peppers come from?”

“Well, they do develop from the seeds, but before they can germinate, a bird has to eat them. Once the bird goes to the bathroom, the seed comes out, ready to grow!”

“Are you sure, Grandpa? I think I don’t like those peppers anymore…”
