One day, after we had taken off from León, we observed as the Cerro Negro Volcano displayed moments of intense volcanic activity. We watched the huge clouds of thick black smoke emanate from the volcano’s core.
“Grandfather! What’s happening to the Cerro Negro Volcano? Do you think it’s going to blow its top? Will it erupt?” Frankly, I felt surprised and scared, for I had never seen an active volcano. From the plane, it looked both angry and intimidating, as the huge dark clouds surrounded its summit. He soothed me, explaining how many years before it had spewed ashes for months.
