     Undeniably, Carito’s natural talent was in itself most admirable. Before she was eight years old, she had reached a complete understanding and communication with the farm’s horses. She surpassed this though, for insofar as her interaction with them, she learned to handle herself within their complex social behavior, integrating fully as if she were just one more member of the herd.

     The roads we travel on in our way to meet our destiny, are, at their best, intricate, and it is with tremendous difficulties that we grasp the turns they are taking. So it was for the Marroqui sisters, who never envisioned the significance that the arrival of a new member to their tiny community would entail for them. He was a man in his seventies, known by the name of Magnifico.

     He was hardly ten years old when Magnifico became an orphan and with the need to look for a new family. This he found within a traveling circus, besides the possibility of working full-time with them. Fully integrated to his recently discovered family and in only a few years, Magnifico displayed the most prodigious abilities in the high art of the juggling. Gradually, he extended his proficiency, as he delved in the exciting realm of the tightrope. Delighted, the young boy performed high above the admiring crowds below. Eventually, his path led him to the high-altitude trapeze, where he felt as comfortable as if it had been meant to be. After a long life in the show business, and as a consequence of a terrible fall, from which he never recuperated entirely, one good day, he made his way back to Colombia, intending to spend the last of his days, below the sun that shone in the land where he had been born many years before. Merely by chance, or perhaps carrying out his destiny, he arrived at the small rural community where the two Marroqui sisters lived and became their neighbor.
