The father quit his job and went to Caldas, the Department who’s Capital is precisely Manizales, and he began his search for the farm. Soon, he was back and organizing everything necessary to move all their stuff to their new home. As it happened, the homestead was located right below the Snowcaps National Park. Apparently, Carito’s father had been earnest about leaving the heat behind and purchased a farm situated at the foot of the perennial glaciers of the Ruiz Volcano.

The winds blew from the snowcapped volcanoes toward their house, keeping it nicely chilled and much to their taste. So, the Marroqui family moved to their country house and mysteriously, the mother recovered her long-lost appetite, enjoying her breakfast and lunches once again.

Since he was a boy, Aureliano Marroqui, revealed a deeply-rooted passion for the equine race. Benefiting from his new-found wealth, he indulged in acquiring three horses and two mares.

Always with a knack to find business opportunities, he bought a cart to draw with the horses, and he began to collect the milk from the farms nearby and transport it to the diary in the city. Four o’clock in the morning would find him already loading the jugs of the white, steaming liquid at one of the neighboring farms on his route, while chitchatting with the farmer about this and that, and just enjoying the early morning hours.

Perhaps it was this passion for horses that became Carito’s legacy, or maybe it was just a natural gift she carried inside herself since birth. The fact is that while at school they were being taught the grammatical rules for speaking correctly, at the farm she was at the time learning in her own way, how to talk to the horses. In a way, she was assimilating the most essential skills that would open the most important doors to her future.
