Gabriel interjected, “And, she takes him by the hand and starts pulling him, bro. So, there we go, all of us, running in a line, wondering what the hell is happening and blindly following after them. She had us intrigued, and we wanted to know what it was all about. She totally freaked us out, because if one thing could be said about her, she never got excited about anything, you know, always keeping her cool.”

Oswaldo continued while he chuckled, “So here we go, like a bunch of school kids. The only thing missing was that she ask us to line up according to size, from the tallest to the shortest, and, of course, holding hands! So, there we go, the bunch of us running like crazy to this spot that’s all the way in the back of the lot, a huge corral, where we kept the horses.”

“At that moment, I see Azlán, he’s the herd’s leader, the top gun among all our horses. They all recognize him as their boss and they do as he says and when he says. So, unbelievably, there’s this girl, and she’s placidly sitting on his back. To make things weirder, the horse has no saddle, nor a blanket, not even the damn reins, and she’s mounted on him, totally bareback, my man. This girl who nobody knows, maybe she’s known back home, but not among us. Nobody had ever seen her before, nor did anyone have the foggiest idea who she was or where she came from. I’m talking nobody, my dear Oscar!”

Jeronimo couldn’t sit by without adding his own two bits: “To make matters creepier still, Azlan was as happy as can be. He was holding his head high. And I swear by God, that the dumb horse was even laughing. Just to give you an idea, Oscar, the only person in the whole wide world that could ride that horse is Oswald! You can stop counting right there because nobody else would dare to try to get on his back. He’d throw anybody else off at the drop of hat! Well, trying not to make this tale any longer than needs be, we all stood by staring and not believing. And I swear, by my dearest Momma, may she rest in peace, that those two were right in the middle of a nice little chat. That girl was talking to him, and he was listening to her, nice and easy like. This, my man, is the plain truth and nothing but…”
