It was Wednesday at noon when Oscar and Gabriel arrived at the beautiful city of Arequipa. That same day, they went to the majestic Historical City Center to have lunch with Gabriel’s two brothers and Doctor Carmona, the circus’ veterinarian, whom he would eventually replace.

Oscar was taken in by the quiet allure of Arequipa City. In a certain way, he found it difficult to believe that this southern Peruvian city could be so stunningly beautiful. They climbed the stairs to a second floor where they found a restaurant facing the Central Plaza. Below, at their feet was a most fantastic view.      Everything came together enabling Oscar to appreciate the magnificence of the living picture below: the colonial buildings enclosing the vast plaza, the more than inspiring Cathedral, but especially the most impressive feature that stood out eclipsing all the rest was the towering volcano crater of the Misti Volcano, incontestably dominating the urban landscape in front them.

Having finished their lunch, they asked for the traditional Sour pisco, grape drinks. Taking advantage of the quiet moment after the meal, they discussed matters related to their work, and of course, to the circus. Apparently, Gabriel had already told his brothers all the details by phone, and with everything they needed to know about Oscar’s personal history and his professional experience.

The two brothers were thrilled with Gabriel’s selection and quite pleased to have him aboard, as the official circus veterinarian. They talked about different important issues. Oswaldo confirmed the generous offer that Gabriel had made back in Lima. Oscar was more than pleased with the pay they had offered him, as well as, the conditions he would be working in. So, they all raised their drinks to a toast welcoming the new member of the Garcia family…
