“We have the finest collection of horses, all of them handpicked thoroughbreds, and some of them are undoubtedly the most outstanding exemplar, fine-breed animals on this planet. You just wouldn’t believe the grace and stylishness that they carry on their elegant four legs! The humblest of them all is pure stock and the best of its kind! Of course, they are all perfectly well trained. Let me tell you, my man, every single one of our numbers is absolutely orchestrated and choreographed, every single detail accounted for. Ours, us the most sophisticated production to be found in these lands!”

“You can bet your money on this plain fact: none of these horses has ever been even slightly mistreated in their work. They don’t know the meaning of violence, never have and never will! In a nutshell, these babies are treated and set in a lifestyle that even I have come to envy! We consider them as actors, and they receive the royal treatment of the stars of the show! They can perform in the most amazing ways, and how they enjoy exhibiting their prowess. To top it off, we’ve built an amazing side-show entertainment revolving around their routines.”

After a quick pause to refill the cups of wine, he kept on talking. “To keep it simple and get down to business, my man. Let me just say that I came to Lima in search of a veterinarian for the circus. We need one desperately! Our veterinarian, who we trust completely is now sixty years old, and he’s decided to go back to Guanajuato, a city in Mexico and his hometown, down in our dear and beloved country. He has family there and wants to spend the rest of his days with them. Frankly, I can’t blame him, and I also understand his reasons perfectly well, old buddy. There’s a time for everything in life.”
