Since the first impression, Oscar decidedly liked Ibarra.  He immediately noticed a striking difference in their manner of speech and, of course, the currency. These details made him feel in a different country, a feeling he enjoyed. His first night, out of Colombia, was at the Barcelona Hotel, in an old, colonial building, bordering the beautiful Plaza de la Merced.

Miguel Enrique, his friend from his time at the university, picked him up at the hotel, early the next day. They had breakfast together, in a small café, close by to the hotel, where they served exuberant meals with freshly baked bread. Years had gone by since their last encounter, yet they both as comfortable as if they were still students living together in their apartment.

After breakfast, they enjoyed an excellent, hot coffee, while talking about the old times at the University. Then, they walked the streets of the Historical Center, before leaving Ibarra for the farm where Miguel Enrique lived with his family.

The farm was only a forty-minute drive away, heading towards the Pacific Coast. The farm mainly produced cocoa, which they exported to different European countries. It sold well and had a huge demand. Four years before, they had planted arábica coffee plants, aiming to diversify their production. Presently, the coffee plants were blooming, and their delicate, white flowers saturated the air with their rich aroma, while the plants were bearing their first fruits.
