Feeling free of worries and responsibilities, he was happy to have it as far as Armenia. He went into a restaurant, captivated by the delicious aromas he encountered passing by in front of it. While he was waiting for his meal, he took out one of the books he had picked for the trip. It was in his smaller day bag. The book, The Adventures of Marco Polo, was one of his favorites. He couldn’t wait to read it, again. In a way, he felt a kinship with the main character in the story…

Two days later, he placidly arrived in Ipiales, the border city. He had gone through more than half of Colombia. Now he was enjoying the satisfaction of having reached the border with Ecuador. The night before, he had slept in the Popayan, the beautiful colonial city also called the White City. He had avidly walked its streets and admired the monumental buildings, its parks and river.

But now it was time to pursue his way into a different country, unknown to him, and a sense of adventure tingled in his blood, realizing that he had become a world traveler overnight.
Oscar had a friend, near Ibarra, a city a few hours from the border. They knew each other from their university days. His friend studied Agronomy, while he studied Veterinary, and they shared an apartment together for a few years. They kept in touch, and Oscar had promised to visit him when he had a chance to. The time finally arrived for that visit to happen.
