The grandparents got married because they had reached the age to do it. And also, because everyone agreed that they made a good match. In that adult world where they got around so comfortably, both weighed the advantages and the disadvantages of their union or marriage contract. Suffice it to say that they found the advantages convincing.

They had two sons, which were enough to satisfy the expectations of their union, and to contribute to perpetuating the human race. Both boys, Oscar and Juan Gonzalo, grew up with a nanny to take care of them and ensure their welfare. She was the mother they never had. At the same time, she gave them the love and the affection of the children she personally never had.

When Dora appeared on the scene, so recently orphaned of her mother, her need of love and care found its echo in Nanny Pilar and her generous and loving attitude towards children. Regrettably, she passed away quite soon after Dora’s arrival, at her ninety-three years of a long life.
