Approach:   Describe the photo to your partner

This airport diagram is your photo, the plane’s locations are different than the ones shown on your partner’s image.

Talk to each other, describing what you see and compare to find these differences.


Directions:  A way something is moving/facing:

The winds were blowing in the opposite direction.

[COUNTABLE] the path that someone or something moves along when going toward a place.

Are you sure we’re going in the right direction?
change direction: The wind has changed direction.
in a southerly/easterly etc. direction (=toward the south, east etc.): The Mississippi River flows in a southerly direction.
in all directions/in every direction: The birds scattered in all directions.
in the direction of someone/something: We drove off in the direction of the mountains.
in the opposite direction: I’d give you a ride, but I’m going in the opposite direction.
a sense of direction (=knowing which way to go): Michelle’s always getting lost because of her terrible sense of direction.

approach  The fact of coming closer in time or in distance.

The airliner is approaching New York City.

path   a way from one place to another passing through a lot of people or around a lot of objects.

Airplanes follow the the shortest path between two points.

course   the direction that a vehicle, especially a ship or airplane, is traveling in or plans to travel in.

The aircraft changed course as it approximated the airport.

hold  To stop someone or something from moving.

The plane was on hold, waiting for his turn to take off.
